The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) and the Health Department have opened applications to community organizations to receive funding to deploy pop-up outdoor cooling stations throughout summer 2026. This opportunity builds on last summer’s joint effort between DOT, Health, MOCEJ, NYCEM, and community partners to provide heat relief to outdoor workers and other heat-vulnerable community members, including those without access to in-home air conditioning.
We are reaching out to share this good news and to ask that you circulate this opportunity and application to community-based organizations in heat-vulnerable neighborhoods that you think would be interested! Organizations will be eligible to receive up to $52,448 for their participation, and will be expected to procure a tent, misting apparatus, shade, drinking water, develop an implementation plan, attend trainings, and deploy the pop-up cooling stations on high-heat days throughout the 2026 heat season.
You can apply through the following link: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/em/call-for-applications-pop-up-cooling-stations.pdf
Please note applications are due by March 19, 2026.
